Since the establishment of the Mobis Greenhouse-gas Management System(MGMS) in 2011, Hyundai Mobis has been conducting the company’s GHG(Scope 1,2) emissions calculations and statistical analysis at all business sites through regular system updates. In 2022, a function to calculate supply chain GHG was added(Scope 3), which further advanced the GHG management system. Based on the company-wide GHG reduction strategy, the performance of each sector is reviewed every year to solidify the foundation for implementing reduction activities. Annual third-party verification is conducted in accordance with ISO14064 (International Standard for GHG Emissions Inventories and Verification) to ensure credibility and proper reporting of emissions and removals.
System(GMEMS) in major domestic and overseas business sites and is monitoring the company-wide energy consumption status and amount of solar power generation by detecting the real-time energy consumption of each facility. We are also continuously updating the system to enable efficient management through comparative analysis by time period, while managing the status and quality of energy supply as well as consumption cost by country. Furthermore, we are establishing a smart factory base for Ulsan Electrification Factory in order to improve process efficiency.
In order to minimize the environmental risks caused by air pollutants, Hyundai Mobis strictly prohibits the use of ozone-depleting substances in the manufacturing process of domestic factories and partner companies. Our standards mandate that the emission rate be kept under 80% of legal statistics and monthly emitted concentration rates be monitored with our safety management system. Business sites that exceed such standards are required to report to the board of directors for the prevention of potential recurrences and present viable measures for improvement. As air pollutant emission levels are expected to rise along with the expansion of production facilities of Hyundai Mobis. However, we will devote ourselves to achieve to restrict the air pollutant emission as the 2021 level by reviewing the introduction of optimal prevention facilities and managing the efficiency of prevention facilities.
In order to prevent the use of hazardous substances in products in advance and systematically manage chemical substances in use, Hyundai Mobis has integrated existing systems to advance Mobis Chemical Management System(MCMS) since 2020. The system is currently being applied to OE orders, vehicle models produced domestically and internationally. In the development stage, we analyze and review the harmfulness of the developed product in accordance with the requirements and laws for finished vehicles, and in the post-production stage, we secure material information that satisfies the regulations through product/part change management. In addition, if harmfulness is identified during the entire process from development to mass production, we are responding so that improvement measures can be taken immediately by changing parts specifications etc. Furthermore, we collect information on the usage of hazardous substances in automobile parts, and analyze material information through the system and conduct periodic monitoring so that we can respond in a timely manner in case of major changes.

For waste reduction and the promotion of recycling, Hyundai Mobis monitors the entire waste process from discharge to transportation and treatment, reporting to the government and regularly inspecting contracted waste management companies to ensure compliance. In 2022, Hyundai Mobis became the first in the domestic automotive industry to achieve the Zero Waste to Landfill (ZWTL) Gold certification from the global verification body, UL, at our Changwon plant. Following this, our Jincheon plant was also certified in 2023, marking the achievement of ZWTL certification across all production facilities in Korea. Also, since joining the Korea Packaging Recycling Cooperative in 2014, Hyundai Mobis has been meeting its recycling duties for synthetic resin packaging materials (such as bubble wrap, vinyl, and PE fillers) and lubricants, in accordance with the Extended Producer Responsibility system.
Moreover, on a global scale, Hyundai Mobis has established clear targets and manages recycling rates at its overseas branches. Approximately 23,000 tons of waste are generated annually at our facilities worldwide, and we comply with each country’s national standards and disposal guidelines to ensure proper waste management. Currently, our recycling rate stands at 76.9%, and we are committed to continually improving this rate both domestically and internationally.

Hyundai Mobis conducts product life cycle assessment to preemptively respond to domestic and overseas regulations and changes in market. A pilot is selected among products exported to global automakers, ISO 14040 and 14044 are applied, and environmental impact items such as global warming, ozone layer impact, and acid rain are evaluated using CML techniques. The report has been officially published on the website. We selected pilots from products exported to global OEMs and applies the ISO 14040 and 14044 standards. In addition, using the CML technique, we assess the products in relation to environmental impact items such as global warming, ozone layer depletion, and acid rain. Furthermore, the Life Cycle Assessment Report containing all relevant information was officially posted on the website in January 2023.
Life Cycle Assessment(LCA): Assessment conducted from the perspective of a product’s entire life cycle from the mining of raw materials to production, usage, recycle, and disposal Centrum voor Milieuwetenschappen Leiden(CML) technique: An impact assessment technique limiting quantitative modeling developed by the Institute of Environmental Sciences of the University of Leiden.
Hyundai Mobis conducts fair evaluations based on quality/delivery, technology, and development capabilities in supplier selection process. Also, compliance with the Supplier Code of Conduct is reviewed, including six areas (human rights/labor, safety/health, environment, ethics, responsible mineral procurement, management system), and penalties are imposed according to the level of compliance. Furthermore, in order to reduce supply chain GHG emissions and encourage eco-friendly activities, the flow of global environmental management and Hyundai Mobis' supply chain GHG management plan are shared at the regular general meeting of suppliers. By establishing an eco-friendly parts supply agreement within the parts supply contract, we require suppliers to prohibit the use of the four major heavy metals (lead, mercury, cadmium, and hexavalent chromium) and to comply with environmental laws and regulations.
